RIP Eric Hatlelid: 1989-2009

It is with profound sadness that we announce that Eric died suddenly on January 31st, 2009 in Kingston, Ontario. He is deeply missed by his parents Keith and Anne Hatlelid, sister Lyndsay, brother Graham, grandparents Tom and Jennie Laing and Wes and Kathleen Hatlelid, uncles and aunts Doug and Margaret Hatlelid, Steve and Betty MacKenzie, Len and Sharon Hatlelid, and David Hatlelid, by cousins Melissa Carter, Sarah and Scott MacKenzie, Emily, Rachel, Katie and Lisa Hatlelid, and by countless friends.
Eric was born in Vancouver on September 24th, 1989 and was a former student at McKechnie Elementary School and Prince of Wales Mini School. He was currently attending Queen's University on a Principal's Scholarship. Eric will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humour, his kind and gentle manner and his amazing intellect. Eric was an enthusiastic participant in all aspects of life. He loved playing guitar, snowboarding, watching the Canucks, being with friends, listening to music, sports of all kinds, camping, reading, and family vacations.
A service to celebrate Eric's life will be held on Saturday, February 14th, 2009 at 2:30 pm in Ryerson United Church, 2195 W. 45th Avenue, Vancouver. The exact cause of Eric's death is still unknown (a fact that would deeply annoy Eric's scientific mind) but it appears that a recent virus interrupted the rhythm of his heart and that he died peacefully in his sleep.
In lieu of flowers, we request that donations be made payable to "The Prince of Wales Mini School" re: Eric Hatlelid, and forwarded to: Prince of Wales Mini School, 4750 Haggart Street, Vancouver, B.C. V6L 2H8, Tel: 604-713-8981. Funds received will be used to establish an Eric Hatlelid Memorial Scholarship and to make a donation in his name to Queen's University.
