Taking a quick break from last minute marking to comment on my thankfulness.

I am so very, very thankful that I've had two major pipe leaks in the past year that have led to my having to remove the walls and ceiling of my front room.

No, seriously.

Because removing the walls and ceiling have exposed the hideous fire-trap of wires that were underneath.

Every major feed from our fuse panel has been cut and badly spliced. At varying places. Some of them more than once.

My electrician, as he was working, was making incoherent noises of disgust... and when he opened up the cladding under the stairs where the wires run, he was momentarily speechless, then took out his camera phone and started taking pictures because "they aren't going to believe me..."

Holmes on Homes would be having a field day.

Thank gods we'll only be paying a fraction of the cost of the electrical, since it's a family friend.

*shudders* And my goodness, how much we will be increasing the value of our home by this. New piping, new wiring... thank goodness!

Oh... and as he was leaving and he and my husband were shutting the garage door, which is currently the front wall as it's being properly enclosed, the garage door fell down... because when Harry Homereno'd altered its instillation when he truncated the amount it could open, he'd simply screwed it into the drywall, not into beams. O.o

This means that, at some point, we need to remove sections of the drop ceiling in the kitchen to ensure that he hasn't made a complete dog's breakfast of the pot lights he installed there. I THINK that's all of the electrical he's attempted. I certainly freaking hope so.
