I'm dealing with a great deal of work nastiness at the moment. FB friends can probably skip this post as I'm mostly cut-and-pasting my rants over the past few days from there.
BC teachers have been without a contract since June of last year. We have been in "negotiations" with BCPSEA, the BC Public Schools Employers Association, since then. Precisely nothing has changed. They are demanding huge concessions from us and offering nothing of value. They have essentially been sitting on their hands, waiting for the gov't to legislate a contract on us. I would say "back to work"... but teachers haven't stopped working. We've stopped certain things, like report cards and recess duty, but have continued on.
Things have heated up over the past week, because we were fairly certain that as soon as the new parliamentary session started, they would legislate us back to work. Which is what BCPSEA has been waiting for, as they were stuck with the gov't's "net-0" mandate as well.
The result is that I've been totally stressed about our current work situation. I feel very bullied by the government right now, like they're disregarding and disrespecting teachers and the work they do. I have stopped reading newspapers at all because almost all that's in them in teacher bashing. It's sickening and disheartening.
( More ranting below. )
